June 2010 Update

"After weighing and measuring approximately 90 potential students, 70 names have been submitted to receive vitamins on a daily basis. There are clearly many malnourished students that need to receive supplements.

When teaching 500 youth, the need to teach them on purity, based on biblical standards is a necessity. For one month during our Saturday evening services the teaching was dedicated to this topic. Two couples from our mentorship team taught the student body and our singles staff.

We realized that it was important for the students to see the vision of the ministry in action, so that they could see the work of the Lord that they are privileged to be a part of. We wanted to give them a sense of ownership and of belonging. We began to involve a group of students each week with our outreach to the surrounding mountain villages. The results have been very positive! Students have been impacted as they witnessed first hand the poverty so easily hidden throughout the wooded mountainous terrain of their country, birthing gratitude and determination in their hearts. They are involved in the hands on experiences as we give food, school supplies, clothing, etc.

During the last week of May, two of our staff and I traveled to the Mosquito Coast (jungle), where approximately 1/4 of our student body comes from. Three days were dedicated to reaching out to 35 of the area pastors that have no support system standing behind them.. Three of these pastors came very discouraged, hoping to have hope renewed within them. It is through these connections that we come in contact with the youth of the area that have an interest in furthering their education, but are unable to do so in this remote, separated district. Through these outreach programs they learn of all that Lifesong Honduras is doing to change their nation."
