February 2010 Update
"For some, this year will perhaps be a year filled with fear-fear of dying, fear of disappointments, fear of failure, fear of the unknown. But those who put their hope and trust in Jesus enter a new year with hope and anticipation of God's blessings. Some enter a new year with joy in the opportunity to make a fresh and clean new start. Here in Zambia we rejoice that God has promised us so many new and wonderful things to look forward to as we work for His Kingdom.
Lifesong School
"Our third year of ministry to orphans and vulnerable children began on January 11. Our new e additions include a 4th grade class and a special education class, which require more toilets, and news showers for after-sports cleanup. We finalized our purchase of a new piece of property that includes a home for our school manager and acreage to expand our vegetable gardens, which provide income for several more of our children's families. Our grove of guava trees has been cleared and a foundation laid in preparation for the 40-foot container that will be shipped soon, loaded with all sorts of donated goods."
A special thank you to Kids Caring 4 Kids who helped to fund the building of new restrooms, showerhouse, nurse & sick room at the Lifesong School in Zambia!
Local Team Visits Lifesong Zambia School
One of the highlights of working in Zambia is meeting the many volunteers who come to visit our school, show love to our children and staff, and teach the children about Jesus. One such team just left, and we are feeling the emptiness of seeing them go. David, from Illinois, came with 12 friends-all in their mid-twenties or early thirties. They taught bible school with the theme "Run the Race," and it required a young team such as they are to keep up the pace. The children learned about running the race for Christ through stories, songs, crafts and recreation. The team was immediately met with eager smiles, handshakes, hugs and then were inundated with children who wanted to touch them, hold their hands, and for some, climb all over them or just be held.
David sums up the trip in these words -
"Africa is often romanticized. A place of wild things, tribal dances and adventure. While it is an exciting place, Africa is broken. Broken by cycles of sin, disease and poverty. Broken, but with great hope. I saw this hope at the Lifesong school in Zambia. A hope reflected in the joy of the children and the passion of the leadership. A hope founded in Christ and carried forward by his people. There is hope for Africa. I saw it. Real hope. Real Africa."
