2010 National Foster Care Prayer Vigil

The National Foster Care Prayer Vigil is calling followers of Christ together across the country this week (May 16-23) to cry out to God on behalf of children and youth in our nation’s foster care system, their families, their workers, and the church as it responds to the needs of those involved in the foster care system. A prayer vigil can take on many forms. It can be a formal, church-wide event, or it can be an informal gathering with your family after dinner. In fact, the possibilities are endless.  A prayer vigil can be: Part of a regular Bible study group in your home Part of a regular Community Group meeting Part of a Sunday School class A prayer walk through your city A gathering of friends at a park, or the beach A lunchtime gathering with co-workers Whatever and wherever you want it to be Please join us in committing to … Continue reading

Dark to Dawn

Imagine being a foster child… graduating from high school, being on your own, and having no family to support you?   Dark to Dawn, a ministry based in Thousand Oaks, CA, is organizing an event to support foster youth in Ventura County, where about 40-50 kids age out of the foster care system every year.  Their goal is to rally the Christian community together to embrace the local foster youth.  This event will tell the story of 4 young people who’ve transitioned from foster care into independent living.  They’ll share their experiences and struggles, allowing the local community to meet them, learn about them, and love them, as the Lord loves them. What an inspiration to reach out to the foster youth in our own communities?  What about you?  Have you been a part of a recent foster youth outreach?  We’d love to hear from you!  As Christ’s hands … Continue reading

‘Every chance I get…’

Every chance I get, I point adopting families (and those who think they might be) to Lifesong for Orphans. Our Christ Jesus is using this ministry to empower families to adopt children, and thus to point the whole church to the gospel that saves us and the mission that sends us.                                 –Russell D. Moore, author, Adopted for Life: The Priority of Adoption for Christian Families and Churches.   Dr. Moore is the Dean of the School of Theology and Senior Vice-President for Academic Administration at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also serves as a preaching pastor at Highview Baptist Church, where he ministers weekly at the congregation’s Fegenbush location. Moore is the author of The Kingdom of Christ and Adopted for Life.   Thanks Dr. Moore for the significant part you are playing in raising awareness and equipping Christ-followers to participate in our Father’s powerful plan for the fatherless.

Help William Walk…

Meet William. William was born with club feet, a condition easily fixed at birth in the states, but often left untreated in parts of the world that do not have the financial or medical capabilities to perform surgery.  He is one of our little guys who attends the Lifesong school in Zambia.  A team from central Illinois visited this past January and their hearts were touched by the sadness in William’s eyes as he stood on the sidelines watching the other children run and play.  Touched as they saw him carried over a mile by his older brother to school.  Touched as he walked completely on the sides of his feet.  So touched that they, along with others, have been moved to action in seeking medical help for William. They are in the process of contacting doctors both in the US and Zambia figuring out the legal, medical and financial issues of … Continue reading

Running with Purpose…

David and Adam are bringing a whole new meaning to the term, “hard core”. This year, they are training to participate in the Beast Series which consists of seven ultramarathons which range from 31 to 100 miles in length.  Why?!, you may ask.  They obviously have a passion for the sport…but that’s not all.  They have a deep passion for the fatherless and have committed to help raise money through their races to help adoptive families, who share that passion. Partnering with Lifesong for Orphans, Run for Orphans‘ goal is to raise $100,000.00 in 2010 which will be used as matching grants to faciliate the adoption of 20 children. Check out this video… To learn more about Run for Orphans and how you can help, visit their website.
