Join Us for an Opportunity to Serve in Zambia

2017 Zambia Work Team header

YOU are invited to join us on a mission trip. On a strawberry farm in the heart of Africa, a team of enthusiastic volunteers is gathering to use their resources, skills, and abilities … and you are invited to participate. Lifesong Farms is a thriving, sustainable business that provides finances to maintain Lifesong School for Orphans as well as provide jobs for dedicated orphan caregivers. As these hardworking caregivers have loved the fatherless, God has blessed the strawberry and fruit farm immeasurably–sending abundant harvest to be sold in top local grocery stores, restaurants, and markets. While this agricultural opportunity has provided for some of the world’s most vulnerable–while simultaneously being salt and light to a community that desperately needs a hopeful future in Christ–we know there is much more work to be done.   Specifically, the basic need for a lavatory would go a long way in caring for the caregivers. Our … Continue reading

When Grace Was Shaped Like Laundry | Tanzania Update

Countries- map

Two children we’ll call “B” and “N” were living with their grandmother–a retired teacher–and they had a good life. But then the unthinkable happened. Their grandmother (and 6 other people in the family) were murdered by home invaders. The two children survived because they hid in a heap of dirty clothes. This was a heartbreaking event within the Tanzanian community. 7 coffins were lined side by side at the funeral. The two children approached Pastor Micah and his wife, Happiness–leaders of Tanzania Children’s Rescue Centre (TCRC) with Lifesong Tanzania–and asked for help since their family was gone. In situations like this, it’s impossible to say no to children, even though we are operating beyond our peak capacity. We thank God these kids are now settling in and healing after the tragic loss of their family. –Pastor Micah It is unbelievable to see how people can wantonly cause the destruction and wounding of others to this degree, but the … Continue reading

Wanted: More People to Help Kids Like Davison

IMG_0458

For children sponsored in Zambia, attending school is a privilege, not a burden. In poverty-stricken communities like Kitwe, children are often left to fend for themselves while parents desperately search for ways to feed and care for the family. Without proper motivation, many children end up dropping out of school, leaving little to no hope of breaking the poverty cycle. “The compound”–as it is called by people in the community–can be a place of violence, crime, or abuse, certainly not a good environment for students to thrive in their education or grow in their relationship with Christ. With your help, Lifesong Zambia established a school almost a decade ago for the purpose of providing over 300 orphaned and vulnerable children with a quality Christian education. Additionally–through the vision and funding of people like you–Student Life Homes were constructed to serve as a safe haven for older students who lived in the compound. For many kids, sponsorship to Lifesong School is … Continue reading

Today Is a Big Day in Zambia!

Zambia Students

Nervous energy and new uniforms signal a very important event: 400 students at Lifesong Zambia go back to school today. We are excited about this year for several reasons. First, the new uniforms are sky blue instead of green. Second, this year marks our first year having a Grade 12 class graduating! Finally, this year marks 10 years Lifesong School has been here in Zambia. 10 years! God’s continued goodness is truly astounding. Our hope for this year is that we continue living out our mission of bringing joy and purpose to orphans and vulnerable children by discipling future leaders of Zambia through Biblical truth and educational excellence. — Skip Stallings, Lifesong Zambia staff Another example of God’s kindness?–This past year, every single one of the Grade 7 students passed their exams! This is the direct result of disciplined study, dedicated teaching, and the daily prayers of people around the world. The students … Continue reading

A Child Worth Fighting For | Family Friday

guice-family-summer-2016-153

Meet Chandler and Griffin. In their words … In 2011, we attended The Church at Brook Hills under the leadership of David Platt. The Church at Brook Hills is a huge adoption/foster care advocate. We felt like the Lord was calling us to orphan care, and so, after much prayer, we started a domestic infant adoption in 2011. During this time, we became pregnant with our second child. This put our adoption on hold but allowed us to pray more about what adoption looked like in our lives. We ended up feeling called to switch to international adoption, more specifically, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We were matched with our son in May 2013. Little did we know, actually bringing our son home would require the fight of our lives. Our son was in an orphanage where he was not receiving proper care. The orphanage shut down and our … Continue reading

Your Invitation to a Graduation | Ethiopia

8074129774_40b699c8e1_o

Lifesong schools exist to prepare students–mentally and spiritually–to launch into the world. So it would seem appropriate at the end of a school year to reflect on the goodness of God. At the end of the school year, each of the three Lifesong school campuses in Ethiopia has its own program, where the parents are invited, skits are performed, poems and essays are read, speeches are given, and the families hear a report on the school year that has just concluded. Awards are then given to the top students, the best clubs, the winning sports teams, and the honored staff members. And finally, the students go to their classrooms to receive their report cards. According to Gary, Misgana Ministies & Lifesong Ethiopia Director– It’s a really big deal here in rural Ethiopia and we are happy to welcome large crowds! The staff and parents always appreciate the festivities. At the Ziway Primary school one of the boys, Million, received the award … Continue reading

Why Education Is Serious Joy | Zambia Update

18704504339_5c9f777707_k (1)

Recently, a small team from Lifesong had the opportunity to put feet on the ground in Zambia to see first-hand what God is doing through ministry partners and supporters like you. What the team discovered in their brief but beneficial visit was an overwhelming testament to the goodness of God. Even greater than the magnificent scenery and the kind reception, the team was excited to meet children and families anxious to know the love of Christ. In poverty-stricken communities like Kitwe, children are often left to fend for themselves and end up dropping out of school. Without education or vocational training, these precious kids-turned-young-adults have little to no hope of breaking the poverty cycle. Because of these trends, Lifesong Zambia established a school almost a decade ago for the purpose of providing over 300 orphaned and vulnerable children with a quality Christian education, ultimately equipping young people with tools and training that will promote family preservation … Continue reading
