Pass It On! {Guatemala Update}

11889464_10153597661809540_2315770224458790476_n

Praising God for this update from our friends in Guatemala … 17- year-old Jessica, mother of 3-year-old Ruby, has grown leaps and bounds in her faith since coming to Village of Hope Guatemala. Jessica is heading up a stove building project in a nearby village providing stoves with quality ventilation for impoverished families. These stoves will give a greater quality of life to the families and cut back on the respiratory issues many families have with open fires in their home. Here is a kitchen that will receive a new stove in September–   It is exciting to see Jessica, who came to Village of Hope a year and a half ago, own her faith and choose to do something to help her country. Jessica knows from experience what it feels like to be a child and go to bed hungry each night–so she desires to help reach people both … Continue reading

Farming the Future: The Power of Sustainable Business

Zheka

When you hear the term sustainable business, what comes to mind?–green business, renewable energy, or harnessing the power of the sun? So many possibilities … and in certain discussions, these answers would be correct. Sustainable business in our context refers to businesses or enterprises that are generating revenue and profit to enable orphan care ministry. As opposed to relying on donations or support, these businesses exist as stand-alone, self-sustaining entities that accomplish 3 specific things: 1. They generate revenue to fuel orphan care projects. Sustainable businesses do not require on-going donations to stay afloat. Hard-working entrepreneurs are making shoes, weaving rugs, farming strawberries–using creative means at their disposal to harness innovative sales for eternal purposes. Luke Gudeman, who spent 4 years working in Zambia on one of Lifesong’s strawberry farms said it best– Find the right people with a head for business and a heart for ministry. 2. They provide jobs for caretakers. … Continue reading

God Works on Winding Roads

Kids

We are a family of six and live in St. Louis, MO. We have two girls and two boys. We always desired to have a large family, and adoption has been on Jennifer’s heart forever. Over the years, we talked about adopting, but the timing of finances and life circumstances always seemed to stop us. In June, 2013, Jennifer went on a mission trip to China and came home with an even greater desire to adopt. It seemed that God was working through our whole family in making it the perfect time to begin the adoption process. We began our paperwork in August, 2013. When we began this journey, we couldn’t imagine coming up with the huge amount of money that was needed, but we knew we had to be obedient in moving forward. It was amazing to watch God reveal His plans for our family by providing in every … Continue reading

An Orphan No More!

Thomas Dan-Janelle Family pic

When we decided to get married, we knew that we wanted to have children in the future and raise them for the Lord. When it was time to grow our family, we experienced challenges. We tried infertility treatments that were unsuccessful. We prayed about it, and the Lord led us to start looking into the adoption option. God planted the idea of adoption in us many years ago. Dan is an adoptee who was placed into a wonderful Christian home at 3 months old. Janelle has been on many international medical missions trips where she has had the opportunity to love, care for, and give dental/medical treatment to orphans in need. In September 2013, the Lord led us to go with Holt International Children’s Services and apply for the China program. The adoption process was a roller coaster ride of emotions. The Lord was faithful and working through our stresses … Continue reading

Family Friday: “We know God called us to adopt…”

Steven and Tiffany could list 78 reasons why they decided to grow their family through adoption.  For several years, they traveled as road directors for an international children’s choir.  They felt God working on their hearts as they were “Mom” and “Dad” to the children in the choir, many of which were orphans from India, Uganda, Brazil, Philippines, Nepal, and Myanmar. The Lord used these children to cultivate in them a heart for the orphan.  As most adoption stories go, Steven and Tiffany’s journey had some unexpected turns and surprises. But through it all, they felt God’s presence and peace as they persued the adoption of their daughter Ayla from China. Thanks to The Church of Brook Hills Adoption Fund, Steven and Tiffany were given a matching grant through Lifesong to help with some of the fiancial costs. Celebrating Through Service — Lifesong Zambia

SONY DSC

We invite you to share a word of encouragement to our staff at Lifesong Zambia. To do so, please reply to this email or leave a comment on our Facebook wall and it will be forwarded to our staff. Thank you in advance for your kind words of support!  We are blessed to share this update from Lifesong Zambia from missionary Shane McBride, “Often times Independence Day is celebrated with fireworks, picnics, and apple pies. Well, here in Zambia on October 24th, we are using the holiday as a time of reflection. We are blessed beyond measure and our students know this.   So, how will we celebrate? Through service. Our students will be going into their community and serving the elderly and widows. It will be a week long activity of shoveling, mending roofs, cutting grass (not with a mower, but by hand with a slasher), fetching water from the wells, … Continue reading

Family Friday: “…Nothing is by chance…”

Phillip and Elaine were first called to adoption in 2000 as they sought to grow their family. They now have five daughers (three through adoption). After attending an “If You Were Mine” conference with the intent of starting a church adoption ministry, they were convicted that the Lord was calling them to adopt again. Please listen is as they share God’s almighty hand as He worked through their 4th adoption of Lily Rose from China with the help of Jeeah’s Hope, one of Lifesong Church Adoption Fund Partners. Our Lifesong grant was probably the biggest God-thing that occurred during the adoption process for Lily Rose. We met a couple, Skip & Ashley, via an online adoption community several years before beginning our adoption for Lily Rose. Ashley followed our blog during our adoption of our 5th daughter. Unbeknownst to me, she and a friend had began an adoption ministry called … Continue reading
