How a Farm Turned an Orphan Into a Leader: Meet Kolya

Kol

Kolya knows the powerful impact of being loved while living in an orphanage. And because of it, the future just got brighter for kids in Ukraine. Meet Kolya. He was just 13 years old when he entered the Constant Christian Presence (CCP) program at Loubetin. Looking for acceptance,  Kolya connected with friends who had a reputation for being wild. But what Kolya didn’t know was that God had plans for his life. As Kolya grew, he spent time with volunteers at CCP–listening to them talk about God and the Gospel. They offered him the acceptance he craved, and when it was time for him to age out of the orphanage, he moved into the Lifesong Ukraine transitional program where he was mentored by loving house parents in a Christian home.     “The chance to live in a transitional home gave me strong motivation to change my life for better. I wanted to use this opportunity wisely.” –Kolya He did use the opportunity wisely. He received his college degree to become an … Continue reading

A Plea for Prayer in Ukraine

Countries- map

The older children become, the harder it can be to maintain their interest in Christian camps and discipleship programs. This is not abnormal, but it is a challenge the team in Ukraine faces daily as they seek to take the Gospel to kids in need. Bogdan, one of the faithful team leaders writes– In a time of social networks and Internet, kids are tempted to lose a sense of reality and any interest to pursue real communication. But we stand in faith and trust our mighty God Who changes lives of orphans no matter what! Using tools like cooking classes, camps, soccer, and crafts, the team goes into the Zap and Lubotin orphanages to build mentoring relationships with kids who want to know more about Christ. As the kids grow into young adults, we invite them to join Lifesong Ukraine’s Transition Program. Here, they receive support and accountability to transition into adult life successfully. These … Continue reading

As God First Loved Us … An Adoption Story from Ukraine

Vlada with her husband, Kolya, and their little girl.

When likeminded believers around the world strive to reach a common goal, extraordinary things happen. Many of us want to reach orphans around the world with the love of Christ. Yet, not being called to adopt or not having several thousand dollars to do so prevents us from reaching fatherless children in other countries in a meaningful way. Thankfully, these are not our only two options. While international adoptions for Americans cost, on average, $40,000, an indigenous adoption for a Ukrainian family costs a small fraction of that. It would make sense–for this reason and others–to equip Christian families in Ukraine who are able and willing to bring Ukrainian orphans into their families as sons and daughters. Years ago–because of the faithful prayer and creative thinking from people like you–Lifesong was able to develop an indigenous adoption program called Adoption Without Borders (AwoB). Adoption Without Borders is an intentional program linking like-minded families and churches in the USA with Christian families in Ukraine who … Continue reading

How to Change the Future for an Orphan | Mission Moment

ruslana-photo

Your support helps change the lives of orphans around the world. Whether through adoption funding or orphan care, lives are being transformed by the Gospel. Here is one story of a life changed by love. MEET RUSLANA Ruslana is a soft-spoken young lady with big dreams and a bright future, but her story hasn’t always been so hopeful. Ruslana’s mother wanted to abort her before deciding, instead, to place her in a Ukrainian orphanage. Ruslana grew up without the love of a family. In her words, “Though I was surrounded by many people, I was lonely.” When Ruslana was in fifth grade, volunteers from a local church began visiting the orphanage weekly. They built relationships with the children–including Ruslana–sharing the good news of the gospel that breaks the cycle of hopelessness. The volunteers taught the children on Sundays and hosted camps during the summer. When Ruslana was 14 years old, her life completely changed– I found out that the … Continue reading

How to Spare a Girl from Prostitution | Ukraine Update

veronica3

Greetings from Team Ukraine! Six years ago our transitional program began in Zap out of a rental house. Today–now that we have a great property with a transitional home, a pavilion, and a small family house–we can say that in due course, God has more than met our expectations for them. All of these buildings exist for the glory of God. The transitional house is filled with children who are mentored by a great and loving family. Each weekend, they invite kids from the orphanage to visit church with them and spend time with God as a family. They view the kids in the orphanage as future graduates and champions for Christ! Meet Veronica 19-year-old Veronica is our sister in Christ and a great volunteer at Lifesong Ukraine. Here is her story in her own words: My name is Veronica. I was born in Zap city in a broken family. When I was 4, … Continue reading

How Camp Is Changing Lives in Ukraine

ukraine_twitter 1

Endless laughter, sunkissed faces, lifelong friends… With summer officially underway, camps here in the U.S. and around the world are in full swing. At Lifesong Ukraine, staff and children are in the midst of their busy camp season. These 5- to 7-day camps include studying the Bible, playing games, hiking outdoors, and singing around the campfire. Would you pray with us that God would be pleased to bless this summer camp season abundantly? During the past 5 years, over 5,000 campers have attended one of Lifesong Ukraine’s summer camps. This staggering statistic has provided unprecedented opportunity to invest in the lives of these orphaned and vulnerable children in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. “It was my dream come true; I never felt so great in any of the camps before.” –Yarik (18)  In part because of relationships established or strengthened during the summer camp season, 84% of the children in orphanages served by Lifesong Ukraine continue on to … Continue reading
