We Chose to Trust God {Family Friday}

FF 2-20-15

In the spring of 2012, Tara and I responded to God’s Word in James 1:27: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”  I had great apprehension about a $45,000 adoption journey. Beyond the expense of much time, energy, and emotion, we chose to also trust God for the financial resources.  Besides, wealth is a value of the world whereas obedience and redemption have everlasting value.  While the journey stretched over two and a half years, a look back at specific occasions reveals God’s provision and blessing. Six months into the process, Tara and I were discussing the $5,000 payment due in order to proceed. We had already applied for many grants, and I became discouraged with the immense costs still ahead of us, so we prayed … Continue reading

Celebrating Through Service — Lifesong Zambia

SONY DSC

We invite you to share a word of encouragement to our staff at Lifesong Zambia. To do so, please reply to this email or leave a comment on our Facebook wall and it will be forwarded to our staff. Thank you in advance for your kind words of support!  We are blessed to share this update from Lifesong Zambia from missionary Shane McBride, “Often times Independence Day is celebrated with fireworks, picnics, and apple pies. Well, here in Zambia on October 24th, we are using the holiday as a time of reflection. We are blessed beyond measure and our students know this.   So, how will we celebrate? Through service. Our students will be going into their community and serving the elderly and widows. It will be a week long activity of shoveling, mending roofs, cutting grass (not with a mower, but by hand with a slasher), fetching water from the wells, … Continue reading

I have to say, though, that while we are thankful for every dollar the project raised for our adoption, the very best thing about it was our widow accepting Christ. In the midst of reorganizing a room she had not touched since her husband passed, a volunteer simply asked her.  She said yes. Isn’t that amazing!?!” -Merica Stum    Yes! That is amazing! Thank you so much Jake & Merica for allowing Lifesong/Both Hands be apart of your adoption story and ultimately the story of HIS glory! To read more about their project check out there blog…here and here. Pure religion in a picture…

Josh and Jenn recently brought home their two darling children from Ethiopia.  Lifesong was blessed to be able to partner with them along with the Louisville Orphan Care Initiative in providing them with a matching grant. Take a glance with us into their lives as they live out James 1:27 in a very real and active way… The Lord has given us the privilege of developing a relationship over the last few years with a 93 year old widow at our church named Geneva. I visit Geneva every other week at her home, and we pray at the end of our time together. I’ve often been struck by the beauty of her prayers for our children, and thought at those times about how God’s Word tells us that He cares for the widows and the orphans. It’s especially sweet for me to be part of seeing a widow care for orphans … Continue reading
