See an Exciting Story in Pictures! | Haiti Update

God continues to do big things–through your prayer and support–for children and families in Haiti. Yesterday morning at 9:00–under a bright blue sky, surrounded by friends and family–a group of believers decided to publicly proclaim their faith by becoming the first (ever!) group to be baptized at Lifesong Haiti/MBO. Imagine the joy and excitement as each person entered the pool–dressed in his or her best clothes–to meet Pastor Octavian. Friends and church members in the crowd sang hymns of praise throughout the entire baptism. One woman baptized–Alerte–has 7 children and has been excited to grow in her walk with God. (She can be seen in the first photo with the mint headband, white shirt, and black skirt.) 3 others who were baptized are students who live in the family residence. The rest have been faithful church attenders who saw their need to obey God with a public profession of faith. … Continue reading

Building Futures in Haiti

Today, thousands of children in Haiti are desperate to know freedom. Their parents and caregivers–often out of options and hope–fall prey to the belief that their children will find a better future in the care of someone else. Instead, these children are being exploited and sold into restavek situations (also known as modern day child slavery), where there is no hope.   But there is HOPE.   Building a home for children orphaned or at risk, as well as providing a quality high school education will help children break free from the grip of poverty. Give Today! RIKENCIA’S STORY Meet Rikencia. Abandoned by her father at a young age, she grew up with her mother and two younger sisters. With unemployment rates sky high, her mother was unable to find a full-time job and food was scarce… so scarce Rikencia and her sisters were forced to search for food and do whatever they … Continue reading

A Powerful Story of 2 Children: OpenArms Haiti

Come with us to Haiti. Haiti is considered the Western Hemisphere’s poorest country. More than 90,000 children lack education, medical care, and nutrition. Worse still, many children have been orphaned. Meet Olgens and Easlan. “We live here,” says Olgens. “This is Haiti. We will show you.” Observe the unspoiled landscapes and the busy market where locals barter in tiny stalls for daily needs, transporting brightly woven baskets on their heads. Visit the school in Tityanen where at least 40 students squeeze into a classroom lacking books or technology. “We had a big earthquake. There were more people before the earthquake.” —Easlan Olgens and Easlan live in Bercy. They occupy a tiny tent and fill their stomachs with mud cookies to stave off the hunger pains. Bercy’s only hospital was closed after the last earthquake. It now stands as a shell of what once existed. Olgens and Easlan represent God’s goodness. The children of Haiti are resilient–even amid the devastation. … Continue reading
