Enjoy this update from our friends in Guatemala …
Alex and Clarity are the house mom and dad of Casa Dos. They not only parent their 3 biological daughters, but also the children who call Village of Hope their home now as well. House parents who have a heart for the children and a heart for Jesus are, hands down, our biggest prayer request. Our desire is to find people who are willing to give their all, including their heart, without holding back, to the children who come to Village of Hope and need just that. To be loved fully and unconditionally–just the way they are.
The other day, I walked into Casa Dos and had to catch my breath as I realized just how fully the Lord had answered our prayers. The table was set with a colorful Guatemalan table cloth. Alex was preparing his sermon for Sunday while 6-year-old Jose sat beside him working on his school work. Baby Jesus slept in the cradle upstairs, while 10 month old Belen cheerfully played on the floor with her toys. Clarita hummed softly as she cooked lunch on the stove nearby.
To some, this picture may not seem like that big of a deal. But to a child who spent the first 4 years of his life growing up in a brothel, who witnessed the things he did, who saw hitting, screaming, and name calling on a daily basis, who ate beans every day for almost every meal, who would have never had the chance at an education–this was a HUGE deal. Having a Christian marriage modeled in front of him, seeing how a husband should treat a wife, learning how to interact in a healthy family setting, being treated with dignity and worth, and learning about the One who created him, makes all the difference in his world.
I am grateful for Alex and Clarita and how they go above all and beyond. How they literally live out His word. I love how they add in the extras- things like a beautiful table cloths, because they believe that these kids, God’s children, deserve the very best. We are so grateful for our Village of Hope employees who serve with all they have, holding nothing back, and we are thankful that God answered our prayers and send His children the best.
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.
If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:8-11
