New School Year – Lifesong Ethiopia

Please enjoy this update from our Lifesong Ethiopia directors, Gary and Peggy Ifft:   On September 12 we turned over our new year here in Ethiopia and now we are in 2004.  We are looking forward to many good things in this new year!   School started here on Monday, September 19.  Opening up 3 campuses with over 600 students was quite a challenge.  This is especially true, considering that we had two brand new school buildings to open up. Opening up 2 new buildings and adding over 200 students also requires a lot of new teachers, teachers’ aides, feeding program cooks, cleaners, and so on.  We now have a school staff of 62 employees and 5 employees in Samuel’s Home.  This is a great responsibility which we take very seriously.  At times we lie awake at night thinking about all the families who are dependent upon us for their livelihood.  … Continue reading

Build a School = Skiing in Aspen?

Over three years ago, my husband and I began our journey to adopt our son from Ethiopia. And since that time, God has been filling our hearts with an overwhelming love and passion for the people of Ethiopia. We returned a year after our first adoption to bring our daughter home. After arriving home with her, we knew we had to do more! We have been so blessed to team up with other adoptive families around the U.S. and with Lifesong for Orphans. Lifesong is doing some amazing work through a small nursery school that they support in Adami Tulu, Ethioipa. You can read more about Adami Tulu here. Last year, we, with five other families, raised over $40,000 to build a new building, restroom facility, and gate at the Adami Tulu school. In August, we got to return to Ethiopia to see the new building. We had an amazing … Continue reading

Soup’s on…

I’m sure many you remember our friend, Addisyn Block, who has been continually advocating for orphans, specifically for our kiddos at Lifesong Ethiopia after her visit there this summer. (check out previous blog posts about Addisyn here and here) We recently received this letter from Addisyn along with her lunch money for the past several months.  That’s right–this school year, Addisyn has eaten the African soup she saw Gary and Peggy Ifft make in Ethiopia every day, and is donating the money normally spent on lunch to kids in Africa.  Yeah…we think it’s great too!      Thanks again Addisyn for your continued support and amazing example…we feel so blessed to partner with you in serving the fatherless.

Jehovah Jireh – The Lord Will Provide

No, it’s not Friday…but we always love sharing some of our adoption stories with you–no matter the day of the week! Meet the Ruggards: The Ruggard family brought home little Tripp this past April from Ethiopia.  Lifesong was able to provide them with a matching grant and also assisted in their fundraising efforts.       What a huge blessing it was to partner with your ministry in our adoption journey.  Lifesong not only provided a $2,500 gift, but also the encouragement to send adoption support letters to our family and friends.  Without this encouragement we may never have allowed God to provide through our family and friends the funds needed to finance our adoption.  –Ruggards Thanks Ruggard family for sharing your heart and your journey with us.  It’s amazing for us to be able to see our God, the Ultimate Provider work in your lives!! “And my God will meet all … Continue reading

Adoption of Faith…

Aaron & Gwen, one of our adoptive couples, recently brought home little Tariku from Ethiopia.  Listen in with us, as they share part of their story… “We started the adoption process because our hearts broke for the orphan child.  There are so many children with no hope and no love…We had the choice to step out in faith or just ignore God.  We chose to follow.  This decision has changed our lives, and our faith has grown, our relationship with God is stronger, and our marriage is better.  God does reveal Himself, we just need to be still and be willing to listen and to follow Him, no matter the cost.” Thanks Aaron, Gwen & family for partnering with us in your adoption journey.  We pray that God will continue to bless your lives with joy and prace because of your active obedience to His call!

Pure religion in a picture…

Josh and Jenn recently brought home their two darling children from Ethiopia.  Lifesong was blessed to be able to partner with them along with the Louisville Orphan Care Initiative in providing them with a matching grant. Take a glance with us into their lives as they live out James 1:27 in a very real and active way… The Lord has given us the privilege of developing a relationship over the last few years with a 93 year old widow at our church named Geneva. I visit Geneva every other week at her home, and we pray at the end of our time together. I’ve often been struck by the beauty of her prayers for our children, and thought at those times about how God’s Word tells us that He cares for the widows and the orphans. It’s especially sweet for me to be part of seeing a widow care for orphans … Continue reading
