3 Ways You Can Help Liberia’s Ebola Relief

We see it almost every night on the news and every day in our social media news feed. Stories are told, pictures are shared, videos are watched. Ebola has taken the lives of more than 2,458 in Liberia* and has left over 2,000 children without one or both parents**. From our perspective here in the States, we read, watch, and wonder what we can do to help meet the vast needs of people a world away. It seems impossible and unreachable, doesn’t it? But it isn’t. Here are 3 ways you can put your “Love in Action” and help Liberia’s Ebola crisis. Pray God gives us the beautiful opportunity come to Him in prayer, allowing us to be part of the impact around the world from our knees. Join us in praying for Liberia… Pray trust can be reestablished in health care and fear and untruth will not hamper the effectiveness … Continue reading

Love in Action During Liberia’s Ebola Crisis

News from the Master’s Home of Champions in Liberia… “In the midst of the Ebola crisis in Liberia, we are thankful all of the children and staff continue to be well. We have been taking precautions since early July to protect against Ebola. Everyone on or who comes on campus has been washing their hands frequently with chlorine bleach water and soap. We have also taken great effort to increase the children’s nutrition, so they can be in the best health possible.  In any instances of other illnesses, we have a nurse come to the home, rather than taking the child to a clinic and risk any exposure to Ebola. School is not in session, but the resident caregivers have been having the children do lessons every day. These caregivers have been educated on symptoms to be watching for, and are carefully monitoring for any signs of illness, which can … Continue reading

New Libraries in Liberia

News from the Master’s Home of Champions…  Graduation: Graduation ceremonies took place in late June at both the Joseph Holland Institute (Rehab) and Lifesong Christian Academy (Marshall).  Students completing Kindergarten and Sixth Grade were recognized in the ceremonies.  The theme for graduation this year was “Carry your Candle”.  Almost all our children advanced to the next grade level this year, and we are very proud of them! Libraries: We are excited to report that construction has begun on the new libraries at both Rehab and Marshall homes!  Shelves and tile flooring are being installed, and it won’t be long until the books arrive. The children, staff and teachers are all thrilled about the libraries, and are so thankful for all the donors who made this possible.  Children’s Festival and Video Project: Our kids participated in a big gospel festival this past weekend, with choirs from both homes taking part in the show. It … Continue reading

A Day in the Life {Lifesong Liberia}

Please enjoy this update from Emmanuel, Lifesong Liberia Director, as he describes a “day in the life” at our homes… At both of our homes, the day starts at 6:00 am. We have a 30 minute devotion time starting with songs like, “Jehovah God, thank you, ’cause you have spared my life to see this day. Thank you, Jehovah God, thank you!” Singing is followed by Bible reading and prayer. Now it’s 6:35 am, and everyone is running to the bathrooms, while the little ones are being catered to by the caregivers. The kitchen is already set for breakfast. Our menu today is: doughnuts with hot tea, and tomorrow it will be cornmeal and milk. After breakfast, everyone is now dressed for school. At 8:00 we hoist the Liberian flag, also called “The Lone Star”, as we recite the pledge, “I pledge allegiance to the flag of Liberia and the … Continue reading

So Much More Than Money {Lifesong Liberia}

Please enjoy this update from Carla Cornell, Lifesong Liberia Child Sponsor, as she shares thoughts from her recent trip to Liberia to meet their sponsor children … Their faces are more real now. We can see their bright eyes and hear their voices in the letters they write back to us. We can picture them doing their homework under the trees behind the orphanage. See them playing soccer and cheering for their school. Remember their songs and dramas. And we can feel their hugs. Meeting Thomas, Sharine and Prince was something we had been picturing for months and to finally feel those arms around us was a priceless, God-given moment. It was then we realized that sponsoring a child can be so much more than just sending money. It can be an opportunity to open our hearts and share the love we so often take for granted with a child … Continue reading

Time for Celebration // Lifesong Liberia

  Please enjoy this update from Lifesong Liberia… “The children at the Master’s Home of Champions at both Rehab and Marshall welcomed their visitors from America with great joy and excitement! Prior to our arrival, they made posters, practiced acting out Bible stories and choreographed songs. As the students performed for us, their eyes were shining and their voices strong. They recited verses, led prayers and brought God’s word to life through several dramas. Through these activities, they are being taught, as well as teaching others.  When it was announced that there would be sports competitions between the two homes, excitement overflowed. The girls played kickball, and then it was the boys’ turn for soccer. This was the first time they had played each other, and the energy was high. Every time a goal was scored, the entire cheering section ran on to the field in celebration. The day ended … Continue reading
