Little Li Hou’s Big Decision | Cambodia & Thailand Update

Because of your support and prayer, God is doing exciting things at Lifesong Cambodia & Thailand. Take a look– 14-year-old Chris became sponsored in February of this year during our Valentine’s campaign to #LoveOne. He is a wonderful young man who loves God and has prayed faithfully for his grandmother to accept Jesus into her life. The good news?–God was pleased to answer his request and now, not only does Chris’s grandmother know Jesus, but so does his uncle and several other members of his family.   Because of some recently donated equipment and new partnerships, Lifesong Cambodia and Thailand will soon begin a new soccer program for children in Bangpli! Not only will this provide a great time of play for kids, but–Lord-willing–it will create many additional opportunities to give the Gospel and to provide discipleship.   Recently, we were excited to rejoice in many recent baptisms, including Li Hou, a precious … Continue reading

Cakes and Donuts and Pies! | Liberia Update

The aroma of fresh-baked bread or cookies … These days, you can follow your nose to Lifesong Liberia’s vocational classes where the girls are learning to bake. Over 20 of our girls from both the Rehab and Marshall homes are participating in a baking/catering unit as part of our vocational programming. The girls are enjoying hands-on training–producing doughnuts, cakes, gingerbread, cornbread, meat pies, and kala (which is a local Liberian pastry).   The classes are held twice a week after school and five days a week during summer break. An added benefit to this class is that they are able to sell some of what they make at our school snack shop. The proceeds are then used to buy more ingredients for the class. The baking class has been very popular, and the girls have continued to practice their new skills by producing pastries for breakfast at the homes. We are … Continue reading

See What Happened to Natasha After Life in the Orphanage | Mission Moment

Your support helps change the lives of orphans around the world. Whether through adoption funding or orphan care, lives–like Natasha’s–are being transformed by the Gospel. Here is her story. MEET NATASHA Natasha and her 8 siblings were left at an orphanage when they were very young. As a result, they grew up understanding very little about what it was like to live in a Christian family. During her time in the orphanage, Christian workers and volunteers invested their time and attention in Natasha–introducing her to the Bible and showing her the love of Christ. Through the mentoring of the Lifesong Ukraine team, she found Christ and a purpose for her life. Now, she is using her experiences to serve at-risk single mothers with the love of Jesus. “I know what it is like to be an orphan as I went through the system and understand the void they have. God has been preparing me since my … Continue reading

How Facebook Led Us to Our Son | Family Friday

It had been nearly a year since we had started our adoption journey when we received a life-changing call from our pastor’s wife. She told us that a friend of hers on Facebook had just posted that she had an emergency. The emergency involved a woman about to give birth who had made an adoption plan, however, the chosen adoptive family had arrived at the hospital and then backed out due to the possibility that the baby about to be born would have special needs. The friend was looking for a Christian, homestudy-ready family to step up and adopt this baby and help this family in crisis. At first we couldn’t believe the request. Was it a scam? Was this situation–a Facebook post–really how our adoption was going to happen? We had prayed at times for God to simply bring a baby to our doorstep as we had not received … Continue reading

What Is the Value of a Girl?

We live in a world that does not value girls. Every day the world pumps out conflicting messages en masse. On one hand, it argues vehemently that a woman should have the right to earn equal pay and the right to do whatever she wants with her body. At the same time, relentless print and media ads framed as self-improvement or entertainment pieces remind a girl that she is lacking–that how she looks and who she is will never be enough. Over hundreds of years we have honed a script where adolescent girls and young women are given an extremely narrow role: Please people. So that when culture prizes women on the basis of sexual attractiveness or proposes the concept of a post-gender society, girls and women fall in line, accepting it as a form of female empowerment instead of what it is–slavery to a worldly system that does not factor in the truth of God. Bottom line: Girls … Continue reading

“I Don’t Want This Child” | Ukraine Country Update

My name is Svetya and I am 22 years old. When I was one year old, my mom left me in a baby house. She simply brought me to the orphanage and said, “I don’t want this child.” After staying there for six years, I was transferred to another orphanage in Sakhnovshchyna where I lived and studied for ten years. Later, I moved to the Louboutin orphanage where I finished high school. My biggest childhood dream was to have loving, caring parents. It was a big burden for me. With particular joy, I would always wait for the Lifesong team to visit us in the orphanages (in Sakhno and Louboutin). I loved spending time with the team, playing games, learning new and meaningful things for my life. Most importantly, they brought the light of the Gospel into the orphanage and our hearts. . Over the years God would persistently knock … Continue reading

Adopting Family, Don’t Lose Heart | Family Friday

Adoption is a hard road. That said, every minute–every moment–is WORTH IT. But every story is unique and this is ours. I had just had surgery and was struggling with complications. I was at an extreme low, trying to figure out how to continue with my new life. Adoption was no longer on the forefront of my mind, as it had been day and night for 3 years. Post-surgery, 7 days later, we got our phone call … a baby girl had been born, we were chosen to be her family, and she was waiting for us! This is what God had been waiting for. THIS was our plan unfolding, and He was watching in awe. This was HIS plan. A few weeks later, someone (who knew the struggles and complications I had been going through after surgery) asked, “Do you feel like you could have said NO to Maya?” … Continue reading
