As God First Loved Us … An Adoption Story from Ukraine

When likeminded believers around the world strive to reach a common goal, extraordinary things happen. Many of us want to reach orphans around the world with the love of Christ. Yet, not being called to adopt or not having several thousand dollars to do so prevents us from reaching fatherless children in other countries in a meaningful way. Thankfully, these are not our only two options. While international adoptions for Americans cost, on average, $40,000, an indigenous adoption for a Ukrainian family costs a small fraction of that. It would make sense–for this reason and others–to equip Christian families in Ukraine who are able and willing to bring Ukrainian orphans into their families as sons and daughters. Years ago–because of the faithful prayer and creative thinking from people like you–Lifesong was able to develop an indigenous adoption program called Adoption Without Borders (AwoB). Adoption Without Borders is an intentional program linking like-minded families and churches in the USA with Christian families in Ukraine who … Continue reading

Emptying Orphanages in Ukraine Though Adoption

Ukrainian Christians Follow Call to ‘Defend the Fatherless’… Meet Viktor and Oksana, a Christian couple in Ukraine who have grown their family through adoption. With over 100,000 children living in state-run orphanages, the need is great.  While working as a teacher in an orphanage  for 5 years, Oksana felt God preparing her heart and opening her eyes to the beauty of adoption. Unable to have biological children, Viktor and Oksana began pursuing the adoption of an 8 month old boy named, Kolya. They later found out that Kolya had two older sisters. In Ukraine, it is not possible to adopt just one out of a sibling group, all must be adopted together. Facing a situation they weren’t expecting or ready for, Viktor and Oksana prayed and considered the possibility of adopting all three. Two weeks later, they committed to bring all Dasha, Vlada and Kolya into their forever family. Adoption … Continue reading

Emptying Orphanages in Ukraine Through Adoption

Please enjoy this update from Denis Poshelok, Lifesong Ukraine Director, as he shares the success of the recent Ukraine National Adoptive Conference. Many of the adoptive families that attended are not only being supported by their local church, but also by American churches through Adoption Without Borders, an intentional program to link like-minded families and churches in the USA with Christian families in the Ukraine who are seeking to adopt. Please join us in lifting up these families in Ukraine as they seek to ’empty the orphanages” through indigenous adoption. “Last weekend we had another great event at our camp – semi annual National Adoption Conference.  About 20 families have attended, this time they came with their children, 62 total! Lots of work to host such an event but definitely joyful! There were two separate events in one – Empowered to Connect training for the adults/parents (both adoptive and potential) and horses, … Continue reading

“We Said Yes to Adoption” // June Mission Moment

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Ephesians 1:5 (NLT) Adoption. One of the most beautiful pieces of the Gospel. An all-powerful and loving Father God chose us, in our sinfulness, to be His sons and daughters. Does it get any better than that? The fact that we, as Christians, can replicate this relationship in our own families to tell the Gospel through our lives is an complete honor and joy. “WE SAID YES TO ADOPTION” // Andy & Laura’s Story  (video by Andy Watson) Andy and Laura, adoptive parents of Eli from Ethiopia shared how God provided every step of the way, crushing fears and showing that HE is faithful to finish what He starts. Part of God’s provision came from Lifesong and its partner, … Continue reading
