We Chose to Trust God {Family Friday}

In the spring of 2012, Tara and I responded to God’s Word in James 1:27: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”  I had great apprehension about a $45,000 adoption journey. Beyond the expense of much time, energy, and emotion, we chose to also trust God for the financial resources.  Besides, wealth is a value of the world whereas obedience and redemption have everlasting value.  While the journey stretched over two and a half years, a look back at specific occasions reveals God’s provision and blessing. Six months into the process, Tara and I were discussing the $5,000 payment due in order to proceed. We had already applied for many grants, and I became discouraged with the immense costs still ahead of us, so we prayed … Continue reading

It wasn’t in our plans…but it was God’s plan!

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9 Never in a million years would we have imagined we’d be back on the paperwork trail planning to head back to China six months after completing our first adoption, but it was happening. Never in a million years would we have imagined ourselves the parents of two beautiful girls who will be amputees. This was certainly not what we had planned our life to look like, but apparently God had other plans (and they are pretty amazing!)… On Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 we were glancing through our adoption agency’s most recent report from the China team. Included in this report were some children listed for the first time by our … Continue reading

Now Our Family is Complete! {Family Friday}

Not feeling peaceful about their family being complete, Matthew & Jeannie stepped out in faith to pursue the adoption of two siblings. Read along in this week’s Family Friday to hear how God blessed and grew them through their times of waiting and uncertainty… We originally planned to adopt an infant from the US like we had with our son.  During the wait God opened our hearts up to adopting multiple children that are older.  We had no idea what our adoption would look like but went ahead and did fundraising to cover the cost of whatever God presented us with.  We got a call about Anthony and Arianna on a Tuesday, met birth mom on Wednesday, and brought Arianna home Friday and Anthony home Monday.  It was a whirlwind of a week.  We had no idea when we brought them home how much waiting and wondering was going to … Continue reading

Anxiety of Waiting vs Joy of Giving {Family Friday}

So much of the adoption journey is waiting, waiting, waiting for the next step, the next phone call, the next email. Enjoy this week’s Family Friday as adoptive couple, Steve & Amy, talked about making the most of the waiting period by serving others. Specifically for them, through a Both Hands project, a service project that raises money for your adoption while working on a widow’s home. Read along… We got a matching grant from Lifesong and did a Both Hands project. We were amazed at how God used this to provide for our adoption costs! Our total from Both Hands and the matching grant covered almost half of our total adoption expenses! We were blown away at how God used our friends and family to rally around us and encourage us through helping with our Both Hands project and giving so generously to help us bring Caleb home! When … Continue reading

We Adopted Without Debt! {Family Friday}

Sharing another miracle for Family Friday this week through Stuart & Angela’s adoption journey. Wanting to help meet their financial needs for adoption, they partner with us and Both Hands Foundation to raise the money to bring their son forever home! Don’t miss the link to their video at the bottom to see what James 1:27 looks like! Listen in… Lifesong has been invaluable to our family. We had a great support group of friends and family that were willing to help us. The tax-deductible giving through Lifesong made it so much easier for them to give. The support and encouragement we received for our Both Hands project was amazing. Our project was a tremendous success. We could not have adopted without debt if it had not been for Lifesong. The Both Hands project was really just a “God-thing”. Our friends and family were willing to give because we were … Continue reading

Both Hands Project Raises over $23,000! {Family Friday}

I continue to be amazed at the active faith I see in our adoptive families. Listen in to Justin & Sarah, who started their adoption process with little money, but were determined to follow God’s call. Special thanks to our friends at Both Hands Foundation for helping this family as they raised money for TWO adoption while ministering to a widow in need… We applied for any support available from Lifesong for Orphans after hearing about the organization from friends at our church who had a Both Hands projects years before.  We got approval for the Both Hands project and ended up raising over $23,000!  When we started the process of adoption, I was still in college and my husband was the sole income provider. We had $100 in our bank account and accepted the call to adopt on faith that somehow the Lord would bring the money. It was because … Continue reading

An Overwhelming Peace {Family Friday}

Thanks for joining us for another Family Friday featuring Preston and Jennifer and their journey to their daughter. With the help of Both Hands Foundation, they were able to raise the funds to bring Anna into their forever family. Read their journey… We were blessed beyond what we could have imagined through our Both Hands project. We knew little about this unique fundraising option when we began our adoption journey, but when we heard about it, we knew it sounded like something we wanted to do. A former friend and co-worker of Jennifer’s had recently passed away after a long illness, leaving her husband with lots of needed updates and repair work around the house. Since John had spent so many years caring for his wife, things around the house and yard had been neglected. We had an overwhelming outpouring of support from our friends who made up our work team, … Continue reading
