Raising Funds and Finding Gold | Family Friday

funds

The prospect of raising adoption funds is rarely an enjoyable one. For a variety of reasons, many families struggle to ask friends and family for help when paying the astronomical expenses associated with adoption. The fear of making people uncomfortable weighs heavy. Jeff and Liza (pictured above) understand. They recently brought their daughter home from China. Having not requested any grants during their first adoption, they decided to apply for a grant during their second adoption and see what God would do. In their words– We are extremely grateful for the matching grant we received from Lifesong. We were shocked to get the grant, and the funds came quickly when they were available. Lifesong made it so easy! When we asked, specifically, why a matching grant made the process of raising funds easier, they explained– Knowing there were dollars available to us motivated and encouraged us to get the word out. We think we were … Continue reading

It’s All In the Timing | Family Friday

Six years ago we felt God leading us to add to our family through adoption. We have been blessed in the area of family, and we wanted to share God’s blessings with someone else. Eventually, we landed on adopting a child from China. We began the process at that time, but we kept hitting a wall, especially in the area of our finances. We finally decided to put the process on hold. About four years and one more biological child later, we felt it was time to begin the process again. This time, the process flowed smoothly. Each time a financial deadline came, God provided. Sometimes he provided through money that we had saved, and sometimes he provided through others. Lifesong was one of those times when He provided in a huge way through others. We received a matching grant from Lifesong right before many of the big payments through … Continue reading

The Longest Shortest Wait

  We were married for almost 10 years, and after years of struggling with infertility, we realized that God called us to start a family through adoption. We started the adoption process in January 2014. During that time we fundraised and received a matching grant through Lifesong. We were matched on 08/14/2014, and we brought our son home on 08/20/2014. The adoption was finalized on 04/15/2015.   Just about every part of our adoption journey did not wind up as we planned it. In the end, everything turned out perfect, which lets us know that God’s plan is not always the same as our plan. The financial burden of adoption is very difficult. When we started our adoption journey, we had no idea how we would be able to raise all of the finances that we needed to pay for our adoption. In the end, we raised almost the exact … Continue reading

Deadline Driven Faith

We found out about the opportunity to adopt our son one month before he was born. There was no time to prepare financially. Also, it was not through an agency, so our final expenses were unknown as we walked into this possible adoption. The birthmother lived in another state, so there were more costs than just a straightforward private adoption in the same city and state.   The donations that came in from friends and family were a huge help and Lifesong provided a secure, tax deductible avenue to donate.  We were amazed at how God connected us with the birthmom through friends who were friends with the birthmom’s mom. It has been a beautiful story of His sovereignty and work in our lives and in the life of the birthmom. Also, we hoped we would receive a small amount of money to help with the adoption. We were amazed by how … Continue reading

“We had NO intention of adoption” {Family Friday}

My family (Brett, myself and daughter Olivia) went on a mission trip to Peru with Windsor Road Christian Church in 2010.  We worked at an orphanage near Trujillo, Peru.  During that visit, we met amazing people who had nothing, but loved God despite their circumstances.  We came home after that trip and felt the need to support the orphanage financially.  In talking about options, we decided we could do more – we could adopt.  God placed three children in our sights.  We had NO intention of adoption when we went to Peru, but God had other plans.  We began the adoption process in the fall of 2010 and the kids were ours in the fall of 2012.  Two years of praying, hoping, fundraising, crying, and much more.  Lifesong was an important component in our fundraising story.  They allowed people to donate funds to our adoption that were tax-deductible.  We raised … Continue reading

“When we were most desperate, God answered…”

In 2011, we spent 2.5 months in Tanzania and found ourselves on multiple occasions among orphaned children. God began turning the wheels of adoption in our hearts there, and when we returned, He continued speaking to us. Over the course of six months, I (Rebecca) began hearing about adoption often, in church, at work, various media, and began listening to the message. I finally recognized God was pressing this upon us and brought it up with Nate, who was easily on board. The next day, the pastor even spoke of our beautiful adoption as God’s children in his sermon, at which point Nate nudged me. Since then, we’ve experienced repeated affirmation of this calling in our lives to pursue adoption to begin expanding our family. Our initial desire was to pursue adoption from Tanzania, a place we feel called to in the future, but they do not allow international adoption. … Continue reading

God Provided in an Incredible Way! {Family Friday}

Lifesong was a great resource for us financially, and provided us with some educational tools as well. The fundraising piece made our adoption so much more possible than we ever imagined. The ability to send people to your site so they had a safe place to give and get a tax-deductible receipt was the biggest. We had an incredible God-thing with Lifesong and our fund-raising. We had a family at church talk to me one day, and they heard the stress I had with our current adoption bills, and offered to pray. A couple weeks later, they called saying an anonymous person they knew wanted to give toward our adoption. I gave them our Lifesong account info and didn’t think too much about it. (We had many people say they wanted to give to our adoption, but never follow through.) A few weeks after that, I had called to try to … Continue reading
