See What Grace Is Doing Today | Liberia Update

God continues to do big things–through your prayer and support–for children in Liberia. Last year, we introduced you to Grace–Her father, who was a pastor, contracted the Ebola virus while ministering to others who were sick. He passed away after four days in the treatment center. After that, Grace and her young sister were not allowed to interact with anyone in the community. They were truly desolate when the Lifesong team reached out to them. They know what it is to grieve and mourn, to have to adjust to new everything. The heartbreak was overwhelming at times. Update on Grace Today, Grace continues to heal from her losses, surrounded by people who love her and want God’s best for her future. She is presently enrolled in a teacher’s college program, and hopes to receive her certificate of completion this summer. She is a kindergarten teacher at one of our schools, … Continue reading

Meet a Boy Who Is Changing Lives in Liberia | Liberia Update

Good things are happening in Liberia because of your prayer and support! Here at Lifesong Liberia we want to create opportunities for our kids to develop a plan for their future. As our teens grow in knowledge and experience, they are able to see firsthand that God has gifted them uniquely and has a purpose for their lives. Meet Abraham One of our students, Abraham, is in 11th grade and lives in the Master’s Home of Champions. He is leading the way in taking initiative and exercising his gifts in a positive way. Abraham loves plants. He took the time to gather decorative grasses and other plants and has created a lovely area of landscaping on the Marshall campus. He identified a need and did something about it … all on his own! His passion is spreading, as evidenced by his own words– I love agriculture, especially planting flowers in … Continue reading

Cakes and Donuts and Pies! | Liberia Update

The aroma of fresh-baked bread or cookies … These days, you can follow your nose to Lifesong Liberia’s vocational classes where the girls are learning to bake. Over 20 of our girls from both the Rehab and Marshall homes are participating in a baking/catering unit as part of our vocational programming. The girls are enjoying hands-on training–producing doughnuts, cakes, gingerbread, cornbread, meat pies, and kala (which is a local Liberian pastry).   The classes are held twice a week after school and five days a week during summer break. An added benefit to this class is that they are able to sell some of what they make at our school snack shop. The proceeds are then used to buy more ingredients for the class. The baking class has been very popular, and the girls have continued to practice their new skills by producing pastries for breakfast at the homes. We are … Continue reading

See What God Is Doing for Our Students in Liberia!

God has been doing big things for students and families in Liberia! The end of the academic year signals a break in classes and homework, and–for many of our kids–a milestone reached.  Last month, Lifesong Liberia had more graduates than ever from kindergarten, sixth, and ninth grades, and our second high school graduate. We are excited by this growth and are so proud of these students. They have worked hard, and we are thankful they have the opportunity to attend school! In Liberia, receiving an education is a privilege, especially for girls. Statistically, only 4 out of every 10 Liberian girls attend school, and the rate declines sharply in the upper levels.  . The children and young adults who live at our homes are growing in their passion for education and learning. As they mature, they can articulate their hopes and dreams for the future. It is wonderful to be able to help our kids set goals … Continue reading

Grief and Grace | Liberia Update

Grace is a girl who lives up to her name. Though she has experienced trauma, loss, grief, and great uncertainty in her young life, her eyes are filled with light and her smile is radiant. She has grown into a lovely young woman with hopes and dreams. She lives in God’s promise to be near to the brokenhearted. Her father, who was a pastor, contracted the Ebola virus while ministering to others who were sick. These days, there is a new spirit about Grace. She was our first high … Continue reading

The Gift of Monday Mornings | Liberia Update

Tests. Homework. Projects. Many students around the U.S. do not consider Mondays–and specifically going back to school–to be a gift. Far from it. Not so in Liberia. Many, many children are unable to attend school on a regular basis. And for them, it can be the difference between a future filled or desolate of hope and opportunity. Lifesong Liberia is thankful for the incredible privilege of having schools on site at both of our homes where 200+ children–including the children in our care along with kids from the community–are invited to receive a good education from dedicated teachers. We are honored to work with Liberian nationals who are passionate about rescuing and caring for destitute and abandoned children. Meet two such staff members who serve as educators and role models at Lifesong School in Liberia. We are grateful for these two (and many others!) who faithfully love and serve the children, all for the glory of God. Meet … Continue reading
