1 of 10,000 | Family Friday

As John Piper has said, God is always doing 10,000 things in your life and, on any given day, you are probably aware of only 3. I think our adoption process has made us aware of many more than usual. The biggest ‘God-thing,’ however, that happened was related to our boys’ paperwork. We adopted two brothers, ages 7 and 3. The older one was shuffled in and out of so many orphanages and children’s home that – for some inexplicable reason – he was assigned two birthdates, two identification numbers, and two names. When the South African officials caught wind of this, they became immediately suspicious of the entire situation (child-trafficking concerns) and halted our entire process. Our agency told us that, even though we were (at that time) already a year and a half into the process, it might be another 2 years! We were devastated. Even our South … Continue reading

[Insert YOUR Name] {Family Friday}

Every Friday we like to highlight a family who has recently brought their child home via adoption. This week we thought we’d highlight your story. Here’s what we know for sure– God maintains your cause around the clock. Because God is both omniscient and omnipresent, you and your future child can never stray outside His thoughts. God never needs to be reminded, prompted, nudged, or nagged (though He wants to hear from you in prayer). He knows your story–including the details that make no sense to you right now–and longs for you to see things from His perspective. He hasn’t forgotten about your adoption. He is more aware of it than you are. If you could see what God sees—from His view and through His eyes—you would not fear tomorrow. You would know with certainty that the sovereign God of Heaven rules perfectly every day and in every decision—even when … Continue reading

Wait Gain: 5 Truths for Seasons of Waiting

Waiting. It doesn’t sound hard, and yet it can be excruciating. Though the word implies sitting still, waiting requires more action than virtually any other assignment from God. Whether you are waiting on adoption or fostering news, or whether you are waiting for something else entirely, here are 5 truths for this season in your life: 1. God wants us to pray. If the direct command to do so (1 Thessalonians 5:17) isn’t enough, the Bible bears a conveyor belt of illustrations that show prayer to be essential. Abraham prayed for Sodom. Moses interceded for Israel. Elijah entreated for prophets. Nehemiah requested for Jerusalem. Paul implored for Philippi. And each prayer was key in accomplishing God’s will. Our mission: Ask! And ask again! 2. God keeps His promises. This is no small achievement since the Bible holds nearly 7,500 of them. What are some of these guarantees? The Lord will give strength to His people (Psalm 29:11). There is … Continue reading

3 Truths When Mother’s Day Is Hard

  For women all over the country, Sunday will bring a bombardment of sticky, unidentifiable crafts. Mothers will treasure these masterpieces even if they have no idea what they actually are. Fact: There are worse things in life than looking like a hippo in a child’s drawing of the family– Take, for instance, being childless on Mother’s Day. If it is the desire of your heart to have a child and you dwell in the wilderness of waiting, Mother’s Day can be as enjoyable as dental surgery. I experienced three of these motherless holidays while waiting to adopt my oldest child. By the third year of waiting, I wanted to visit a new church on Mother’s Day, if only to be a chameleon in the crowd, unsusceptible to the sympathetic looks and knowing glances of people who knew my heart was broken. I had begged God to give me my son … Continue reading

3 Ways to Care for Unadoptable Orphans

Adoption. It’s such a beautiful gift God first gave us through Christ, welcoming us to be His forever family. In mimicking that love, we too, can also give adoption to children in need of family. Thankfully, we have seen this happening in the Church today as God ignites hearts to mimic His love. As we hear the staggering statistics of vulnerable children throughout the world and dig in deeper to care for the orphan, we will find that many orphans, because of various reasons, are unadoptable. But, adoptable or not, the call remains the same: to love, care and defend the fatherless. So what are ways that we can love children without family around the world? Last week, we asked our followers on #ParentsSpeak how their families love unadoptable orphans and this is what they said… 3 Ways to Care for Unadoptable Orphans: Go – How can we love them if … Continue reading

While numbers and stats are fun to look at, lets pray not necessarily pray for the quantity of attendees, but the quality! Join us in praying for the CAFO2014 attendees… Pray for attendance. God, we pray that you would make a way for the right people to be present at CAFO2014. We asks that you would guide hearts to be drawn to this conference to know more about your love for the orphan. Pray for prepared hearts. Father, we ask that … Continue reading
