Meet Charity: Future World Changer

Charity could never have guessed all that God had planned for her life when she first began attending Lifesong School in Garneton, Zambia. Though she was just a little girl in primary school, she was already well-acquainted with heartache and struggle. Her dad lost his job, for instance, and he could no longer provide for the family. Additionally, she had to move out of her parents’ home and live with her sister who was already a busy wife and mom. Despite the best efforts of a family who loved each other, life wasn’t easy and daily needs went unmet. Charity heard about a school in Garneton with a reputation for offering a good education and she wanted to attend. She hoped Lifesong School might be the ticket she needed to pursue a brighter future. So she applied, was accepted, and willingly walked the hour and a half each way to attend classes. When she arrived–without shoes, books, or … Continue reading

Standing in the Sun: Bright Futures in Zambia

Choosing career, getting married, having children… From the time you were knee-high, you were likely asked the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and you had the luxury of changing your answers as often as you changed your clothes. Getting an education wasn’t an “if,” but a “when,” and staying healthy was generally as simple as making a quick trip to the doctor or pharmacy. Not so for children in Zambia. Though blessed with resilience and determination, children in poverty-stricken communities like Kitwe are often left to fend for themselves, eventually dropping out of school and seeking acceptance wherever it can be found. Without access to vocational training or health care, many of these children have little hope to break the poverty cycle or enjoy the privilege of planning a bright future. Your prayerful support provides education, housing, and healthcare for children in Zambia. Lifesong School continues to thrive as one of the best schools in … Continue reading

Why Education Is Serious Joy | Zambia Update

Recently, a small team from Lifesong had the opportunity to put feet on the ground in Zambia to see first-hand what God is doing through ministry partners and supporters like you. What the team discovered in their brief but beneficial visit was an overwhelming testament to the goodness of God. Even greater than the magnificent scenery and the kind reception, the team was excited to meet children and families anxious to know the love of Christ. In poverty-stricken communities like Kitwe, children are often left to fend for themselves and end up dropping out of school. Without education or vocational training, these precious kids-turned-young-adults have little to no hope of breaking the poverty cycle. Because of these trends, Lifesong Zambia established a school almost a decade ago for the purpose of providing over 300 orphaned and vulnerable children with a quality Christian education, ultimately equipping young people with tools and training that will promote family preservation … Continue reading

Raising Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

“Slowly [the boys] are beginning to realize they’re getting the best…and to also give the best out of their lives.”–John & Mwila, houseparents at Zambia’s Student Life Homes    Since January, three Student Life Homes in Zambia are providing a safe environment for 39 students in the freshman class. This move gives them a place where they can thrive in a healthy, family environment away from the temptations and negative influences found in the compound where they were raised.  As expected, it’s been a bit of an adjustment for the 11 boys in John & Mwila’s home. Learning to function as a family with roles, rules, and certain expectations has taken some time to get used to for a group of boys who are accustomed to living on their own, answering only to themselves.  As you heard in their testimony, John & Mwila have not only met hardships along the way, … Continue reading

Giving JOY Through Student Life Homes

ZAMBIA UPDATE: High School senior Emily Hayes decided to graduate early, giving up a team sport and senior memories to serve as an intern in Zambia. Please enjoy reading her perspective and insight on the new Student Life Homes… “My time here thus far has been incredible. With that being said, it has also been the most difficult time of my life. God has stretched me in ways that I could have never imagined possible, and I cannot wait to see what He has in store for the rest of my time here.  Zambia is a miraculous place, and the work being done here is truly changing lives. Students are invested in every single day, and the difference it is making is evident in the kids here. One of the most incredible things happening currently is the Student Life Homes.  They have been built (with even more houses currently under … Continue reading

First Look at Student Life Homes!

Last October, the dream of Student Life Homes was born. Now, a year later, after fundraising, construction, and faithful advocacy, our freshman class gets a sneak-peak on the progress of the building that soon be their home! WATCH below… This residential program will help provide a safe environment for students to thrive. The homes you see in the video will house some of our freshman class students, with the hope of eventually ramping up to 13 homes for 125 students.  Student Life Homes will serve as a safe haven for some of our students who live in the compound. The compound can be a place of violence, crime, or abuse, not giving our kids an environment to thrive not only in their education but their relationship and growth in Christ. “When I was living in the compound, my life was not good.  My mom was drinking and when she would … Continue reading
