Sometimes loving children as Christ loves them means absorbing our own hurts in order to create less hurt for them in the long run.
Specifically, here at Fundación Esperanza–also known as Lifesong Bolivia–a key element in our work is identifying children who could possibly be reunited with a biological family member. On one hand, we love these kids and want them to stay in our care. On the other hand–
We know that living in a loving family environment is always better than living in an orphanage.
Recently, we’ve had the opportunity to see 2 sibling groups leave our care to be reunited with their families. And though our hearts ache for this loss of daily, regular contact with these kids whom we love, we are simultaneously thrilled that these children will know the joy of growing up with their family.
Meet one family
Most recently, we were involved with the reunification of 5 siblings with their mom. Our social worker and psychologist worked alongside the mom for months while creating visiting opportunities for the family here at Fundación Esperanza. Together, they worked on themes such as handling inappropriate behavior, disciplining properly, and motivating the children to excel in school. These valuable life skills are easily and frequently taken for granted by those who have grown up in stable, intact families, but to adults here in Bolivia, much of this is new. We continue to make follow-up visits and phone calls, and we are excited for the progress this precious family is making.
Seeing a family restored is one of our greatest joys at Fundación Esperanza and is a great reminder of God’s restoration power.
For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for. –2 Corinthians 13:9
- Would you pray that God continues to restore families in Bolivia in ways that only He can?
- Would you pray, also, that we–as caretakers–would be strong, putting the needs of children ahead of personal hurt?
Thank you for your role in seeing families in Bolivia restored.
For God is not so unjust as to overlook your work and the love that you showed for His sake in serving. –Hebrews 6:10
Pray for more families to be reunited in Bolivia.
